Lyric

Musical Lyric

A lyric (from the Greek Lyrikos) was originally a song written for musical accompaniment by a lyre. The term now refers to poem that, though not necessary intended to be sung, are melodious in meter and rhythm. Lyric tended to be subjective and emotional rather than intellectually complex and are generally written in the first person. The genres of alergy and ode are both lyrical in expression. The lyric is often distinguished from two other broad categories of poetry, the narative and the dramatic, but both long narrative poem and verse plays frequently resort to lyric devices.

Lyrical Ballads

The Lyrical Ballads (1978) is a volume of poetry by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth that includes Wordsworth's "Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey" and Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The preface, which Words word added to a second edition (1800), is regarded as the earliest and most important theoretical statement of the principles of English Romanticism. In the preface Wordworth rejected the artificial, consciously poetic diction of his predecessors and proposed to write in the "language really used by men," to illustrate "the primary laws of our nature" in the lives of humble, rustic people. His celebrated definition of poetry as "the spontaneous overflow of the powerful feelings" is too personal to be inclusive but apty describes the movingly introspective "Tintern Abbey."

Better wood quality as raw material for guitar the price is more expensive, and other component that very determining to the sound quality result are the string qualities. If you choose a less good quality then will have a good sound just for a while, after that the sound quality will down.

The quality of string often down faster if you can’t how to maintain this string on using. If the string is always stretching, the quality can be changed. So that is why the guitarist always loosens the string after they are finished for playing. This may be making you lazy to do like this, but this is the only way to maintain the guitar quality. Medieval Music

The middle Ages in music began in 313, when the Roman emperor Constantine the Great embraced Christianity, emerging form underground, the church immediately established a schola cantorum in Rome for the training of musicians, Church music then consisted, as it had since pre-Cristian Judaism, of Plainsong, liturgical texts chanted to flowing melodies without measured rhythm. The Roman liturgy became standard in Western Christianity due primarily to the effort of Gregory I, pope from 590 to 604. The body of plainsong is known as Gregorian chant in his honor, although it seems not to have reached its final from until the 8th century.

Expansion of Liturgy
Classical music theory, transmitted (6th century) by Boethius and studied by all aspirants to the clergy, equipped medieval musicians to use tropes, textual or musical additions, to extend the received texts and melodies of the plainsong Mass. These plainsong additions, newly composed to poetic texts, were inserted between or even within the regular chants. Tropes could become quite lengthy, even theoretical.

The sequence originally a mere tag to the Alleluia of the Mass, began around the same time and in the same way as the trope, but it eventually detached itself from particular chants to become independent composition.

Development of Polyphony
Simultaneous with the ration by polyphony (more than one melodic line sounding simultaneously). This technique began modestly enough with the parallel organum of the 9 thin parallel. Eventually, voices moved in dependently of the melody, and the original chant, the cantus firmus or tenorfantastic' decorations. Leading schools in this florid organum were located at St. Martial in LimogesParis (1175-1220), especially under the latter's two great masters, Leonin and Perotin. (literally, holder), had to be slowed down to accommodate the other voices ' (1100-50) and Notre Dame in century, in which two singers began on different pithches, separated by the musical interval of a fourth of fifth, and sang the same melody.

Medieval Drama

The distinguishing features of medieval drama are its Christian content and didactic purpose. Vernacular plays typically dramatized the live of saints, Bible stories, or moral allegories. The biblical cycle plays, sometimes called mystery plays, were originally performed under church auspices but by the late 14th century were produced under the supervision of craft guilds (misteres) and performed in public places on the feast of Corpus or during Whitsuntide.

Although they contained Old Testament and nativity sequences, the cycles were primarily devoted to portraying the life and passion of Christ, his harrowing of hell, his resurrection and appearances to his disciples and to the two Marys, but these were suppressed in Protestant countries during the Reformation. Typically the plays adhered as closely as possible, given their "translation" into verse, to the biblical narratives, but some are based on episodes left undeveloped in the Bible, such as the visit of the Shepherds or Balaam and his ass, or are derived from legendary sources, such as plays about the Antichrist. The cycle plays reached their greatest expansion in the 15th and early 16th centuries but in England were suppressed as "popish" in the 1570s.

Protestant antagonism also account for the disappearance of most of miracle, or saints, plays. Only two are extant; the Conversion of Saint Paul, narrative history similar to the biblical cycles, and Mary Magdalene, which combined biblical-cycle elements with the framework of the morality.

The morality play was an allegory that depicted the fall of the representative Everyman, his life in sin and folly and his eventual redemption. In most elaborate of these, the Castle of Perseverance (c.1425), the soul of Humanum Genus resides in a castles encircled by the forces of good (God, His Angles, and other agents) and evil (the World, the Flesh, the Devil, Covetise and the other Seven Deadly Sins). The play follows his life, its climax being a battle in which the forces of good beat off the evil ones with a barrage of roses, symbolic plays were solemn, however; Mankind (c. 1470) depicted the fall and life in sin of its protagonist in an often farcical manner.

The most famous morality play, Everman (c. 1500), an English work probably derived from a Dutch original, is less typical of the genre in that it omits the fall and life in sin and instead dramatized Everyman's summons by Death to account for his sins. These moralities were performed by professional and traveling troupes. The influence of the form can be seen in Christopher Marlow's Doctor Faustus and in the Faistaff scenes of Shakespeare's Henry IV, as well as in other Renaissance plays.

Introduction of Music

Elements Of Music

The physical qualities of sound include duration; amplitude (a measure of force or strength) and its temporal envelope, or evolution (attack, sustaining, and decay characteristics); and frequency (the fundamental rate of vibration, measured in cycles per second, also called hertz).

A straightforward relationship exists between frequency and Pitch: the higher fundamental frequency, the higher the received Pitch. Loudness depends both on amplitude and on the frequency spectrum, since sound with more higher frequency are perceived as more intense. Timbre is the characteristic tonal quality of a sound, which enable one to distinguish voices of two people, or a clarinet from a flute. Several physical factors influence in the perception of timbre: the envelope; the frequency spectrum; and the formats, one or more regions in an instrument that resonate and amplify any frequency that pass through them.

The most important elements of music are rhythm, melody, counterpoint, harmony, form and tone color. Other element such as dynamics (variation in loudness), texture and density, can also be identified, but these are usually employed to underscore formal or expressive patterns.

Rhythm: a rhythmic pulse marks off division of time. Pulses may be stressed or unstressed. Many early medieval and some Renaissance works are unstressed, with subtly shifting accents determined by the sung text.

Melody: A Melody is a succession of tones in rhythm. Melodies are structured into phrase, each of which ends with a cadence, a relaxation of breathing time. Sometimes a fragmentary but incisive pitch or rhythmic figure of a few notes, called a motive, is repeated several times. Motives, phrases or entire melodies can also be varied (repeated with alterations) or developed (broken into smaller units that are combined in new ways of transposed to as “lines” because of the audible shapes they traces. In large scale works the principal melodies are called themes.

The development of western music, by contrast, has been characterized largely by the combination of tones and melodies in ever new ways, through polyphony (“many sound”) and counterpoint (“point against point”). The separate melodies usually called “voices” even in instrumental work, maintain independent contours and may end at different places, but they are also interrelated to produce a composite formal design.

Harmony: Groups of tones sounded together create Harmony. Harmonic practice, with evolve out of melodic and polyphonic procedures, is among the most distinctive features of Western music. The basic unit of harmony is the chord, two or more tones that fuse into a single musical sound. The harmonic quality of chord is determined by the interval between its tones and by its relation to other chord in a passage.

The basic chord of tonal music is the triad, consisting of tree tones, each two diatonic scale step apart (for example tones 1, 3 and 5 of major or minor scale). Triads and more complex chords with additional tones, can relate to each other in changing ways, resulting in modulation, a temporary shift into some other key.

Form: Form is the architectural structure of music, the process trough which the tiniest details are linked and related through points of tension, climax, and resolution to create the overall design of work. Formal principles can be grouped into two broad categories, outlines and procedures. Outline, or scheme, consists of a general sequences of events. The most important arrival points are full cadences-the point of harmonic repose that mark off sectional divisions. Two-part forms present a statement and a response. The second section may begin with contrasting ideas, or with restatement or the initial material.
