Drum

Drums are among the oldest musical instruments, found throughout the world and in a great variety of shapes and sizes. A drum normally consists of a skin or other membrane, called a head, which is stretched over an enclosed space or over one or both ends of a hollow vessel. Exceptions include the African slit drum, made from a metal barrel. Drums are usually played by the hands or by one or two sticks. In some non-Western cultures drums have a symbolic function and are often used in religious ceremonies. They are sometimes used in sending signals. The talking drums of Africa can imitate the inflections and pitch variations of a spoken language and are used for communicating over great distances.

Many drums used in Western societies are of African, Arabic, or Turkish Origin. The Kettledrum was introduced into Europe during the Crusades. The European tabor derived from an African instrument and sometimes called a tambour, was a small drum played with the right hand, while the left hand fingered a 3-hole flute. Across its center, the labor often held a snare, which produced a strong vibration and sustained the sound between beats.

The modern symphony orchestra employs a variety of drums. Kettledrums are the most common, the bass drum, tenor drum, and snare drum, or side drum, are also sometimes used, along with tambourines and bongo drums on occasion. Among these, only the kettledrums produce sounds of definite pitch, which is adjustable. The tenor drum is a large deep drum with two heads that is played with wooden sticks. The larger bass drum, also with two heads, stands upright on its side and is struck with felt padded sticks. Bongo drums are small single headed drums stuck with the hands and usually played in sets of two or three. The tambourine is a shallow single headed drum with metal jingle inserted into the frame.

Drums are also used in large numbers in military and marching bands. Traps, an assortment or drums and other percussion devices played by a single performer, have been a standard feature of dance and jazz bands since the early part of the 20th century.

In effort fight of conspiracy of music CD and also software CD in Jakarta and other big city in Indonesia look like not too serious. Told like this because still available in electronic trading center of imitate CD, this Spurious CD is circulated in smaller town like in Bogor, Purwakarta, Cikampek and other small city.

In effort to eradicate the spurious CD or DVD, police have raided a factory that is producing spurious optic disk. The factory assessed as one of the biggest CD producers in Indonesia. The company that have closed after the police raided is PT Multi Media Plastikama,

Even though some effort have done to raid CD producers and also the distributor of this CD but still a lot of seller sells this spurious CD. Circulation of this spurious CD is in limited area, like in far off from commerce center.

After Mr. Billgate visit to Indonesia, government have do some action to avoid distribution of spurious software CD in Indonesia. Government act sweeping to the company that is not use original software CD. This sweeping mainly focus to the merchandizing and legal company in Indonesia

To obligate of using original software CD in Indonesia in fact still a lot of constraint, because original software CD still be felt very costly for Indonesian people. Dollar always rise up and the civil income is not as higher as other country such as Malaysia, Singapore. Thailand and other neighborhood country.

The solution should be facilitating by a government, as soon as to socialize of using open source software, and always try to develop this open source as original product. Now many Indonesian people that smart enough and can create Indonesian original product. Good luck… and be creative ......

Medieval Music

The middle Ages in music began in 313, when the Roman emperor Constantine the Great embraced Christianity, emerging form underground, the church immediately established a schola cantorum in Rome for the training of musicians, Church music then consisted, as it had since pre-Cristian Judaism, of Plainsong, liturgical texts chanted to flowing melodies without measured rhythm. The Roman liturgy became standard in Western Christianity due primarily to the effort of Gregory I, pope from 590 to 604. The body of plainsong is known as Gregorian chant in his honor, although it seems not to have reached its final from until the 8th century.

Expansion of Liturgy
Classical music theory, transmitted (6th century) by Boethius and studied by all aspirants to the clergy, equipped medieval musicians to use tropes, textual or musical additions, to extend the received texts and melodies of the plainsong Mass. These plainsong additions, newly composed to poetic texts, were inserted between or even within the regular chants. Tropes could become quite lengthy, even theoretical.

The sequence originally a mere tag to the Alleluia of the Mass, began around the same time and in the same way as the trope, but it eventually detached itself from particular chants to become independent composition.

Development of Polyphony
Simultaneous with the ration by polyphony (more than one melodic line sounding simultaneously). This technique began modestly enough with the parallel organum of the 9 thin parallel. Eventually, voices moved in dependently of the melody, and the original chant, the cantus firmus or tenorfantastic' decorations. Leading schools in this florid organum were located at St. Martial in LimogesParis (1175-1220), especially under the latter's two great masters, Leonin and Perotin. (literally, holder), had to be slowed down to accommodate the other voices ' (1100-50) and Notre Dame in century, in which two singers began on different pithches, separated by the musical interval of a fourth of fifth, and sang the same melody.
